The agriculture sector accounts for up to 40 percent of Afghanistan’s gross domestic product. Agriculture is critical to Afghanistan’s food security and a driver of economic growth. The majority of Afghans rely on agriculture for their livelihoods and their family’s sustenance. Prior to decades of conflict, Afghanistan’s agricultural products earned a global reputation for excellence.
The most important activity VARA provides is Nursery Farming & Green Houses which is the need of people specially women in rural areas in Afghanistan.
To support marginalized groups such as farmers, youth, and women, VARA works with close to 100 cooperatives and 15,000 farmers to enhance governance, production, access to agricultural inputs and training in order to support the development of sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas
VARA implemented and worked in the following Agriculture activities:
VARA has built the capacity of the Departments of Agriculture, Irrigation and livestock staff and progressive farmers of Kandahar, Helmand, Urozgan, Zabul, Nimroz and Farah provinces in Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, nurseries establishment, orchards, wheat seed production, other cereal crops, Pest Management and diseases control training and etc…
